Welcome Nurse Practitioners Amy & Chantel!

Dear Community,

I am delighted to share that we have two Nurse Practitioners (NP) joining our Hyland Crest Long-Term Care Home (LTC), Amy Thompson and Chantel Barry. Amy and Chantel will be supporting our Medical Director, Dr. Mike Armstrong, to bring health and wellbeing to our LTC residents. Although primarily focused at Hyland Crest, Amy and Chantel may be covering for Dr. Armstrong at Highland Wood on occasion. On September 3, 2024, NPs Amy and Chantel will join the team bringing extensive experience, expertise and kindness to the residents and families of Hyland Crest.

Amy is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) who has spent the past 18 years practicing within a Rural Family Health Team providing care from newborn to end-of-life support. Amy also manages the health care needs of another long-term care facility and works at a walk-in clinic that addresses acute care needs within the community. Additionally, she has been mentoring NP students for over 10 years and in 2017 completed her Master of Nursing degree with a teaching focus. In 2012, Amy received a certificate in gerontological nursing at St. Francis Xavier University.

Chantel is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) who earned her Master of Nursing degree and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate in 2020 from the University of Toronto. She has been practicing in both primary and acute care settings where she provides wholistic care to clients of all ages. She has a background in episodic/urgent/primary health care and has more recently bridged to hospitalist work. Chantel enjoys providing comprehensive care to her patients and their families, continuous education, and mentoring students and colleagues.

Please join me in welcoming our new Nurse Practitioners, Amy and Chantel!

My best,
Veronica Nelson
